Call for SCORE Volunteers

February 21, 2011

SCORE Lancaster will hold an Open House Luncheon on April 28 for those interested in volunteering to mentor emerging and existing small businesses in Lancaster County.

If you can commit at least 20 hours per month … if you have relevant experience and expertise to share with entrepreneurs … if you want to learn more about the requirements and expectations of SCORE membership … we invite you to join us at Liberty Place, Lancaster, from 11:15 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on April 28.

To give you some perspective regarding SCORE’s impact on the business community: In 2010 SCORE volunteers mentored 467 first-time clients, conducted 130 business workshops for more than 1,200 entrepreneurs, and facilitated 30 business roundtables for 336 small business owners/operators. We helped create an estimated 30 new companies and 134 new jobs in Lancaster County.

Come and meet our mentors; hear directly from several successful clients how we’ve helped them achieve their goals; share lunch with local community and political leaders; and evaluate how your talents and availability to mentor entrepreneurs fit SCORE’s mission.

Today, Lancaster SCORE includes about 50 members, many still active in fulltime employment. The combination of retired executives and active business people offers our clients valuable, current insight. For mentors, benefits include an opportunity for professional development through collaborating with successful business executives, conducting needs assessments and creating problem-solving strategies for small businesses, and coaching entrepreneurs engaged in start-ups and established companies.

To learn more about the role and commitment of SCORE mentors, contact Tom Burgum via email at or call the SCORE office at 717-397-3092.
